It'll sometimes leak out, other times put coolant in the motor. I can't remember for sure but I seem to remember the 3800 being like the 3400/3100 motors and you'l have to remove the pushrods to replace the gaskets which means you'll want to pull the front valve cover.

Now at 139,00k it's leaking coolant again. I pulled the lower plenum and am changing the gaskets, cleaned the LIM. the mating faces on the LIM and head aren't pitted or corroded.UIM & LIM gasket replacement now no start. It runs really good except at idle, it doesn’t idle smooth and runs at around 800-900 rpm. I pull the codes and get p0171 – Bank 1 too lean. The fuel trim is staying around 15-20% and doesn’t fluctuate with higher RPMs. The upstream o2 sensor is reading around .05 and not really fluctuating, so I immediately suspect a vacuum leak.

Got new aluminum gaskets and removed LIM, it well worth the extra trouble. If they are available for this engine i would use them. The LIM gasket is between the lower intake plenum and the heads.
