Mar 3, 2021 · Locking operations have been temporarily suspended at Markland Locks and Dam on the Ohio River (Ohio River Mile 531.5) due to high water. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District made the decision to suspend lock operations effective March 3, 2021, after close coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard and our industry partners.Dams on large rivers help maintain a consistent depth of water, which not only helps control water during flood events, but also aids in navigation.• It’s examining an improved SR 101 connection between the Markland Dam and US 50. • A SR 101 extension is expected to provide more direct access to I-71 and US 50. • The project area includes portions of Switzerland, Ohio, Dearborn and Ripley counties. • The project is in the environmental and preliminary design stage.
