Next time you can safely kill him after torching his jars. You will find the torch in a closed chest right behind the table. I advise you to trade with him beforehand, he does not drop all of his wares. Mystic Carrion will still desire Thrumbo's body parts as per his side quest, so you must still complete his quest, but for now, you can return to Oskar with the torch.
