Ram 2500 stuck in 4th gear.

The cause: about 100K miles prior, 5th gear had come off. The repair performed involved a thrust washer. The thrust washer came off, went through the gear case and was caught on the magnet on the bottom of the tranny case. When it went through the case, it chiped some teeth and misalighed 5th and the shift fork.

Basically all the problems with these transmissions are valve body related and the poor machining and casting quality of the components resulting in leakage. Last night my wife called me underground at work ND said that she had picked the kids up at school and the truck stuck in reverse. When the valve does not move as expected by the TCM, it will set a fault code for that solenoid. The problem is usually a stuck valve in the valve body.Yes - P0783 3-4 shift. It doesnt make any attempt to move in drive, but also doesnt make any noises. Also, putting the transmission in a particular gear using the selection doesnt make a difference.
