DS2 strikes a tone that's unique to it, and sets it clearly apart from the other games. On top of that, DS2 probably has the best NG+ system of the game. It actually adds new items and enemies, making it feel like the game has more replayability to it. You don't need to worry about saving Smelter Wedges if you explore everywhere before fighting the boss. If I'm not mistaken, there are 12 Smelter Wedges in total (6 at the beginning, 4 in a chest, 1 with Fume Knight and the last one in the memory of Sir Alonne).
