It's all completely open-source ( github link) so you can check it and compile it for yourself if you want. sky client is just a mod installer. it you wanna use it def use a 3rd party launcher (I use prism launcher) bc the auto updater is broken in the regular launcher. forge is definitely safer but sky client is probably fine. There is a fake "skytils 2.0 beta" that has been going around and Skyclient included it one time by accident, which caused some users to get infected. The story was that one of their people was investigating the fake version and accidentally added it to the repo
I used it to download my mods, still use my skyclient instance without any issues. I manually update my mods mostly because skyclient doesn't include beta/prerelease mods when most mods don't even put out full releases anymore.
