There’s a new face at the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce. Monica King took over as the new executive director of the Chamber last week and is eager to get to know the community. King and her family have been gone from the Demopolis area for 24 years and she said what attracted them back was “a mix of everything.”

Plans are set for the 42nd annual Christmas on the River. The week of Dec. 4-7 is jam-packed with many activities, so there’s sure to be a little something for everyone. The event is sponsored by the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce and takes many volunteers to pull off. Below is a breakdown of COTR events.Demopolis was Al Burkett’s old stomping ground back in the 1950s. That’s how he met his son’s mother, Jackie, and ultimately got introduced to Christmas on the River. The songwriter now lives in Texas but has recently gotten reintroduced to COTR by penning a song about the festival.
