Gear oil is usually around 80 weight, and that's way too heavy for the ZF5 whose lubricant should be around 20 weight. You can use many different fluids, but not 80W90 and similar gear oils. Gear oil and motor oil wts are not the same. Redline's MT-90 and MTL are similar to a 20 or 30 wt. motor oil.
