When screwing on the new filter, make sure to lubricate the rubber o-ring with a little bit of the old oil from the drain pan. Tighten the new filter by hand and then only about 1/4 to 1/2 of a turn at most beyond hand tight is plenty to prevent leakage since you are sealing the oil filter to the engine case with the rubber o-ring. One at the front of the motor and one towards the back.
